What is the Consumer Affairs Committee?
We are a standing committee of your local union. Our goals and responsibilities as set forth by the Consumer Affairs Department of the International Union include the following:
- To foster UAW membership awareness of consumer problems.
- To conduct consumer protection educational programs in the Local and CAP
Committees.
- To support legislation at the community, state and federal levels.
- To mobilize union and public support of consumer informational services.
- To promote consumer representation on appropriate governmental
committees, boards, and councils.
- To establish relationships with national, state, and community organizations
which have a major commitment to consumer problems.
- To enlist the support of each spouse of each UAW member in consumer
activities and affairs.
- To use UAW Public Relations channels and mass media to publicize in
every possible way consumer frauds, credit chicanery, exploitation of poor,
as well as consumer rights under existing legislation.
- To develop comprehensive programs designed to deal with basic causes of
fundamental consumer problems at the national, state and local levels.
